announcing FLATTERY_02

an all-night ambient gathering
Saturday April 9, 2005
AAAA10pm-8am
in the Copy Cat building, 1501 Guilford, Baltimore MD
at the Equinox Hangspace, #406A (buzzer *10)
“Celebrating Balance and Harmony, Day and Night."
admission $8, over 21 w/ID

THIS IS NOT A RAVE! This is an AMBIENT gathering, everybody on the floor,
with psychedelic generally-beatless sonic lust* coming at you all night long.
Unless you’re the sort that can dance to the sound of a broken refrigerator (we love you),
there will be NO dancing, and probably not even much standing,
and we’re gonna stash the chairs so forget that too.
You are STRONGLY encouraged to bring blankets and padding for the floor
(it's concrete; you have been warned.), pillows, slippers/flops, clean thick socks, stupid toys,
comfy duds, massage oil, snacks, whatever you want to best tailor your own experience
for ten lost hours.
Come fully prepared, everyone else will: plan on stretching all the way out for the duration.
We are going to provide you with an environment most conducive to taking a real journey,
and not necessarily to places you were expecting.

Please note: while the promoters sincerely wished we lived in a country
where what goes on inside your mind and body was your own business,
we know that is sooo not the case, so let’s be quite clear:
WE DO NOT CONDONE THE USE OF ANY ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES.

If anyone was around back when the Cloudwatch events (no affiliation)
were held down at Azar Court (sigh...),
then your heart just leapt because you know how perfect those times were:
find your spot, spread out your stuff, pile up your shoes, giggle at your neighbors,
ask to play with their teddy bears, bump butts, trade backrubs, make out, drift off and dream
and not realize it until your eyes slip open, and stumble home after sunrise, dazed and complete.

At first glance, it sounds like it would be the most absolutely boring thing ever, wow,
let's just all go lay around, y-a-w-n, but sometime in your second or third hour,
when you're totally relaxed, and the DJ is strumming your senses like a genital,
you look around and realize, yep, they’re right,
this is absolutely perfect:
the peak of civilization, like a big ol’ harem of pure luxury,
just basking in the fact that you can.
There’s just something indescribable about dreaming in a room with others.
Magik Carpet on a stick, hang on tight, maybe it'll help.

We will have water on sale (tip your server!), but you are welcome to bring your own drinks,
in coolers even. You may bring your own beer, but please respect that
the loaded-on-alcohol vibe is just really not what we’re after, recognize.
We’ll probably also have some sort of cold fruity things, maybe frozfruits or fresh juice.

The buzzer shgould work, *10 is the code; if not the phone (410 366 6207)
should get you to someone who will come downstairs to let you in.
Capacity is limited (maybe 100?), so come early.
There will be an excellent DJ starting at 10pm, so come at 10:01 and get a good spot.

performers (tentative list):
Sheldon Drake (Undercity, Twilo, Neuronal, Abstrakt Wave, and once-upon-a-time, Cloudwatch)
Jason Sloan (live PA on guitar and laptop: SloBor Media, Skean Dhu, Kikapu Records)
Charles Cohen (live PA on the Buchla Sound Easel)
Twine (live PA: twinesound.com, ghostly international, biphop)
DJ Frank the Rabbit (aka Gavin Heck)
loadbang (loadbang.notlong.com)
possibly some sort of live dance performance on Christy's new loft/stage
3-projector slide show by Fred Merrill (they were SO stunning last time)
(want to play? or volunteer? or decorate? other questions? contact schnoidl@sheldondrake.com ASAP)

Please respect our neighborhood! They aren't used to it, but let's try to improve the place
with our conduct! Park legally, lock your car, don't leave ANYTHING you like in it;
better yet don’t leave anything in sight, not even a newspaper on the floor, as junkies are
such curious things. Carpooling/taxi is not a bad idea as nearby parking is limited.
Please keep trash/noise/etc within your car, or within the space.
We have neighbors even within the building who we'd like to treat well, so please stay quiet
and above all else: DO NOT TAG OUR BUILDING! Tagging is the landlord's pet peeve number one
and will certainly ensure this is our last event ever period.

DIRECTIONS:
The Street address is 1501 Guilford; look for a crappy brown awning, and Equinox signs.

From Penn Station:
if arriving by train, you can actually walk quite easily to the event.
(Keep your eyes open and your wits about you. Don’t walk alone if you can help it.
If you see another (non-homeless) goofball with a pile of pillows and blankets,
go say hi and walk over together.) If you are standing in front of the Station facing the
hideous new gigantic shemale sculpture, aka The Transvestitute, exit to your Left.
Turn Right onto St. Paul. Walk one block.
Turn Left onto Mt. Royal. Walk two blocks. Turn Left onto Guilford.
Walk one block across the mulicolored bridge, and you're there.

From Downtown Baltimore/Mt. Vernon/Inner Harbor:
take Calvert Street North. Cross major intersection at Mt. Royal Ave,
make the next Right onto Federal Street. Go one block to Guilford, park wherever you see a spot.
The CopyCat building is on your Right, closest door to the multicolored bridge.

From I-95:
take 395/Martin Luther King Blvd exit for downtown.
Follow right-hand ramp to 395 (which is a silly highway that goes about 6 blocks).
Bear right onto Conway Street, turn Left at the end.
Stay to the Left, and you'll end up on Calvert Street.
Follow the directions for Downtown approach.

From Charles Village/North Balto City:
take St. Paul Street South, turn Left on North Ave. Go 2 blocks to Guilford, turn Right.
Go about 4 blocks, just before the multicolored bridge, the CopyCat building is on your left.

From I-695/North Balto Suburbs/York PA:
take I-83 South to the North Avenue/Mt. Royal exit. Turn Left at the bottom of the ramp,
which will put you on North Avenue; after 8 blocks turn right on Guilford,
then follow directions for Charles Village approach.
